I've just started reading it, and I love it!
Will there be an event which updates us on the state of funding and [government] oversight of our lakes? Reading about the challenges of lake research in the Lake Winnipeg chapter was disheartening -- and then I realized the book was first published in 2009. So things may be even worse now.

I think it would be good to bring politicians and government officials together to talk about the current state of lakeland research.

[...] E-Writer in Residence Launch October 1st, 2011 NOWW is pleased to announce the launch of our 2011 e-Writer in Residence program with two exciting events! A reading/meet and greet with Elizabeth Ruth, the 2011 e-Writer in Residence, will take place on Thursday, October 13, 7-9 pm at the Waverley Library Auditorium, Thunder Bay, ON. On Saturday, October 15th from 1-4, Ruth will give a workshop entitled Building Character and Creating Conflict: discover key elements in successful fiction writing, at Confederation College, Room C212. Workshop Description: Welcome to an intensive writing class. If you are participating you’re in the thick of working on a piece of fiction now – it could be a novel or a short story or perhaps even a play. You want/need technical instruction. You see yourself as a “writer” but can’t bring yourself to say this in front of others. You may have published a couple of things, or none at all, but that doesn’t need to get in your way! To participate in this class you don’t need to have taken courses or workshops before, but it helps if you understand the basic principles of effective fiction writing such as what is meant by: plot, dialogue, character development, point of view, tense. This class will focus on building effective characters in your fiction and on developing your understanding of dramatic tension (A.K.A. conflict) through lecture style instruction. Writing will not be shared or evaluated. Help us kick off this unique and exciting program and join us in welcoming Elizabeth Ruth to NOWW! Elizabeth Ruth (www.elizabethruth.com) is the author of two critically acclaimed novels, Ten Good Seconds of SilenceSmoke. A third novel, The Matador—about a female bullfighter—will be published in the fall of 2012. Ten Good Seconds was short-listed for several prestigious awards. Smoke was described in the Globe and Mail as “a virtuoso performance….utterly remarkable…” and was selected as the 2007 One Book, One Community read (http://oboc.ca/past-years/smoke-by-elizabeth-ruth/).
