Bury Your Dead

Bury Your DeadLouise Penny’s book, Bury Your Dead, is the reading selection for Waterloo Region in 2011! One Book, One Community invites all of Waterloo Region to experience what the starred Booklist review describes as “the best yet, a true tour de force of storytelling … Penny hits every note perfectly in what is one of the most elaborately constructed and remarkably moving mysteries in years.”

Bury Your Dead synopsis from Louise Penny’s website:

“As Quebec City shivers in the grip of winter, its ancient stone walls cracking in the cold, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache plunges into the most unusual case of his celebrated career. A man has been brutally murdered in one of the city’s oldest buildings – a library where the English citizens of Quebec safeguard their history. And the death opens a door into the past, exposing a mystery that has lain dormant for centuries…a mystery Gamache must solve if he’s to apprehend a present-day killer.”

Bury Your Dead has been named the Canadian Booksellers Association top hand sell of the year. The Globe and Mail, Halifax Chronicle Herald, Amazon.com among others have chosen Bury Your Dead as one of the best crime novels of the year. Bury Your Dead recently won the Dilys Award in the US, as the book mystery bookstores most liked to sell in 2010. As well, Bury Your Dead has been nominated for the Agatha and Barry mystery awards, and the American Library Association and AudioFile  magazine have both named the book as Best Mystery of 2010.
